International Q10 experts gather in Belgium
The latest scientific knowledge about coenzyme Q10 will be presented in Brussels on May 27th-30th. One of the most interesting items on the program is the latest news about Q-SYMBIO, a large multi-national trial that is currently investigating the potential of Q10 in the treatment of heart failure.
The sixth conference of the International Coenzyme Q10 Association is being held in Brussels on May 27th-30th, 2010. At the conference, Q10 experts from all over the world, as well as media and medical professionals will be able to get updated on the latest science about Q10.
Multi-centre trial
A notable item on the scientific program is the Q-SYMBIO trial – an ongoing multi-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving up to 550 patients suffering from chronic heart failure. The patients all receive standard treatment for heart failure as well as either 300 mg/day coenzyme Q10 or placebo. Both the Q10 and placebo capsules are supplied by Pharma Nord.
Phase one results presented
The Q-SYMBIO trial has two phases. A short term evaluation after 16 weeks will examine improvements in symptoms, functional capacity and biomarker status, while a 2-year follow-up will test the hypothesis that Q10 may reduce mortality and hospitalisation in patients with severe chronic heart failure. The team behind Q-SYMBIO will present the results of the 16-week part of the trial at the conference in Brussels.
